Dr. Martin Kesuma - Director
A native of Jakarta, Indonesia, Dr. Martin Kesuma is an award-winning pianist praised for his “heartfelt flexibility and harmonic sensitivity” (Fanfare Magazine) and “clearly articulated playing of the highest order” (The Art Music Lounge). He has extensively performed as a solo pianist and chamber musician throughout Asia, Europe, and North America.
He has been recognized with major prizes in competitions including the San Jose International Piano Competition, Vancouver International Music Competition, PianoHouse International Piano Competition, Betty Dickinson Piano Competition, New York International Music Concours, Canadian International Music Competition, ASEAN International Concerto Competition, Petroff College Level Piano Competition, and Texas State International Piano Festival Concerto Competition. His debut album, “Detours,” was released in 2021 by Centaur Records to critical acclaim.
Martin’s concerto appearances include performances with Orkes Simfoni Nasional Indonesia (The National Symphony Orchestra of Indonesia), Central Texas Philharmonic, Round Rock Symphony, Density512 Orchestra, University of Texas-University Orchestra, and Texas State Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he has appeared for interviews and performances on the National Public Radio, KUTX (Austin), Texas Public Radio (San Antonio), and K-Radio (New York).
Martin earned his degrees in Piano Performance from Texas State University (BM), University of Texas at Austin (MM and DMA), and Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music (Artist Diploma Program). While at UT Austin, Martin also worked as the UT Piano Project coordinator, class piano instructor, and private lesson instructor. His principal teachers include Washington Garcia, Jason Kwak, Anton Nel, and James Anagnoson. In Fall 2023, Martin has relocated to Central Texas to prepare for performances and competitions.

Ms. Hayoung Lee - Program Coordinator
Born in South Korea and educated in Singapore, Hayoung Lee is pursuing her Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy degree at Texas State University under the tutelage of Dr. Jason Kwak. She is also a Graduate Teaching Assistant to Dr. Ezra Bartz, where she teaches basic piano skills to a class of undergraduate music majors.Prior to pursuing a Master’s, Hayoung earned a Bachelor of Education (First Class Honours) degree, with a concentration in piano pedagogy, from the Royal College of Music (London) in collaboration with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore). She has studied with Yuko Kamimoto, Lena Ching, Dr. Ernest Lim, Dr. Bokyung Kim, and Dr. Mengyang Pan. During her studies, she has presented lecture-recitals based on her research, including detailed documentation on the development of techniques in the use of the wrist and arm and teaching strategies on rhythmic development as related to Dalcroze and Kodály on kinesthetic, visual, and aural modes of learning.As a performer, Hayoung has an extensive background in performance, from classical solo recitals and concerts to several instrumental ensembles, establishing herself as a soloist and a piano accompanist. Furthermore, her dedication to collaboration led her to perform frequently as a pianist with the Texas State Treble and Tenor/Bass Choir and as an orchestral keyboardist with the Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra.Hayoung is currently a piano instructor and the program coordinator for the FunKey Piano Project, a community outreach program for local youths.
